First the dentist will put a rubber dam over your teeth to protect the gums or a gel to protect the soft tissue. They will then apply the whitening product to your teeth, using a specially made tray which fits into your mouth like a gum-shield.

Then a light is shone onto the teeth to activate the chemical. The treatment can be done in two hours.

The amount of discomfort experienced after treatment varies from person to person. Your teeth and your gum will likely become sensitive. (All products contain peroxide based gels but they are not harmful.) This should settle down after approximately 48 hours. Our dentist recommends the routine use of desensitizing gel following bleaching.
